Toddler Class

A wonderful play group and introduction to preschool for your toddler! Our toddlers are introduced to an environment they would enjoy exploring. Sensory toys, beginning puzzles, art media, dramatic play and books are just some of the things your child will be exposed to while they are ”learning through play.” Group experiences include songs, puppets, and a variety of music and rhythm exercises.
We begin with outside free-play, then circle time, song and attendance in class, followed by a variety of activities, and a snack is served. The day ends with music and dance. Parents work in classroom each school day (1 day per week).
Age: 1-2 years (1 year old by August 31 of enrollment year)

The curriculum for this class encourages children to learn to choose from a variety of experiences including, art, large and small motor activities, music and movement. Play in the classroom child-centered and self initiated. Overall themes are developed by Teacher Gina and supported by parent curriculum assistants.
Class begins with circle time, song and attendance, followed by outside time. When the class returns, children choose from a variety of activities, and a snack is served. Parents are assigned to specific areas for teaching. The day ends with music and dance. Parents work in classroom 1 day per week.
Age: 2-3 years (2 years old by August 31 of enrollment year)

The curriculum for this class is based around themes that focus on the child and the world around him/her. The themes are developed by Teacher Gina and are supported and explored by the small group activities, art, music, sensory bins, dramatic play, independent and group play, and story time. Song and dance continue to be important but are given great meaning by relating them to favorite books, felt board stories, simple group games, and other interactive activities.
Class begins with circle time, song and attendance, followed by outside time. Back in the classroom, everyone comes together for circle time, followed by small-group activities led by the parents. The children then have free-play and a snack is offered. The day ends with music and dance. Parents work in classroom 1 day per week.

The focus of this class continues to be learing through play, but is geared to ease the transition to kindergarten through preparedness. The children receive an introduction to number and letter sounds/recognition while continuing to explore themes in the world around us through group games, drawing, painting, writing, song and dance. Social relationships are explored through dramatic play, group activities and outdoor play.
Class begins with circle time, song and attendance, followed by small-group activities led by the parent volunteers. The children then have free-play and a snack is offered. The day ends with free-play time outside, then return to class for dismissal. Parents work in classroom 1 day per week.

Mixed-Age Class
Teacher: Caroline Chastain
The Mixed-Age class is offered to 3-5 year olds. The philosophy behind the class is to give parents and children even more flexibility with their scheduling. This class will be in the afternoon, in contrast to the Pre-3 and 3-4 classes that are in the mornings. This curriculum is designed specifically to support the wide range of developmental abilities for each individual child. Putting older and younger children together helps them teach and learn from each other. Younger children are motivated and nurtured by the older children, and the older ones increase their self-esteem and reinforce what they have learned by modeling skills.
This class was designed to meet the needs of parents that want a slightly older class for their 3 year olds, parents who desire an additional year of school for their 5 year old before entering Kindergarten, or families with siblings. Teacher Caroline has a clear strategy of how to tailor the class to fulfill educational goals for their different ages. Parents work in the classroom 1 day per week.
