***Please Note: Class meetings will be from 6:30-7:00 in your usual class meeting areas. Then, from 7-7:30 we will have PROPS, announcements and a special guest who will give us information about recycling.
Maintaining Your Relationship While Raising Children, will address the importance of Self-Care both for you as individuals and as a couple as you parent and that it is not selfish to make time for yourselves. It is imperative to keep your LOVE CUP at a level that supports you “giving to others” from abundance not scarcity. The concept of OVERINDULGENCE and how these behaviors deplete competency and limit positive self- esteem will be introduced.
Joan is a Psychiatric Nurse Clinical Specialist, with more than 45 years experience working with individuals, couples, families and groups in a variety of settings including her Private Psychotherapy Practice.
As an educator,Joan has lectured at colleges, corporations, and health care facilities. She presents programs for healthcare professionals as well as business, community, church, and parent groups. She draws from a variety of topics including, Parent/Child and Family Dynamics, Building Self- Esteem, Care for the Caregiver, Stress Management, Communicating Effectively, Coping with Life Transitions, and The Concept of Overindulgence.
Joan draws from “Real Life” as a woman, wife, mother, grandmother, friend and parent. She believes that parenting is the most challenging / rewarding task and gift in life. Her children and grandchildren continue to be her most potent teachers as she witnesses them tackle their developmental tasks with varying degrees of
resistance, risk, and resilience. She also knows first hand the work and rewards involved in negotiating and sustaining a long- term relationship.
Her work as a therapist and educator reflects her belief that each of us has “our story”, a story that is composed of many voices from our past, present, and future. Joan is a listener to these our stories.
Hope to see you all there!
